Understanding the importance and immediate need for mentorship in our community,
particularly as it relates to our youth, we pledge to increase mentorship participation. We will do this by
providing guidance to Black youth through elders and youth peer mentorship as well as our business and
community leaders.
We will provide our youth with the knowledge and skills to understand money and manage financial resources effectively for a lifetime of financial well-being and generational wealth.
Acknowledging the power and impact of Black arts and culture on ourselves and the rest of the world, we will work to determine how we define, practice and continue to gain power over our culture moving forward.
Due to the importance and impact of government on our daily lives, we will increase community understanding of how politics and governance work so that we can make informed decisions, collectively engage in the political process based on shared interests and positively effect conditions within the Black community.
We will teach: a) the importance of understanding the power of media and how it effects the way we see ourselves, our history and what we are capable of. b) the technical skills associated with media arts. c) how to navigate, manipulate, create and own media to provide a more realistic image of ourselves and our experiences.
We will reinforce the practice of improving all areas of health and nutrition including spirituality and provide access to better nutrition and physical fitness.
We will help prepare our Black primary and secondary students for college, graduate study and careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
